The North Hampshire Downs Benefice

The North Hampshire Downs Benefice (NHDB) was formed in June 2008 when 8 parishes and 12 village churches were brought together in one benefice.

There is a leadership team consisting of Clergy, Readers and an Administrator.

The aim of the benefice is to ensure a vibrant and open church presence in each of our 12 villages, with a particular clergyperson responsible for each particular church or group of churches:

Herriard (St Mary)
Tunworth (All Saints)
Upton Grey (St Mary)
Weston Patrick (St Lawrence)
The Revd Peter Dyson, Rector of the Benefice, 01256 861750

Long Sutton (All Saints)
South Warnborough (St Andrew)
The Revd Kathy O'Loughlin, 01256 862657

The united parish of Newnham, comprising
Greywell (St Mary)
Mapledurwell (St Mary)
Nately Scures (St Swithun)
Newnham (St Nicholas)
Up Nately (St Stephen)
The Revd Jane Leese, 01256 765547

Odiham (All Saints)
The Revd Alison Brown, 01256 703220

At the same time we combine for those events which can be more effective when done together.

The following take place at the local parish church level: regular Sunday services, Baptism, Marriage and Funerals, housegroups, Sunday clubs, youth clubs, Mums & Toddler groups, Parish Magazines and pastoral care. As a benefice we do the following together: organising special services, Lent, Alpha and other training courses, support for Hoima (a town in Uganda), communications and Mothers Union.

The Assistant Curate is The Revd Martin East, 01256 703887.

We have also a retired priest working with us in the benefice: The Revd Michael Jaggs, 01252 842658.

The clergy meet together for morning prayer on a daily basis.

The Readers serving within the benefice are:
Peter Moore, 01256 703085
Jill Lestrille, 01256 862131

Our enabler and administrator is Linda Scard.

As a benefice and as part of the Church of England we believe in an open and inclusive church trying to reflect the openness and love of Jesus Christ, where everyone is welcome in any of our churches and to any of our events. This open, inclusive approach is reflected in the Baptism and Marriage policies across all our churches.

If you would like to know more, please contact one of the clergy set out above.
